Hawk-issues

So I tried to put up my hawk, it semi-worked, but I think my hair was still too damp.
I forgot that your hair has to be completely dry.
So, i'm looking at hawk tutorials as well, to see how other people style their hawks.
I'm wondering whether to try the big, sexy hairspray that my hairdresser used or whether it matters?
I'm currently using old Aquanet.

P.s.
A new Being Human is on tonight!

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

I woke up at 8:10am, put a little gel in my hair since my hawk is down today.
Put on make up and got ready for work.
I love my hair (I'll post pictures tomorrow, i'm putting my hawk up after school *I want to see how long it takes for when I put it up before school*).
So hopefully there will be photos of my black hair with a red streak, in the bangs, and deathawk-ness, tomorrow.
Alec and I are going to try the P90x workout here in the next couple of months or so.
I'm excited.
I went to the grocery store today, I bought 29 items for 68.30$.
Not bad.
I got a lot of "good" for you items.
Such as:
Some Chobani Yogurts(yumm), some cereal without hi-fructose corn syrup, some OJ, two things of whole wheat pasta, whole wheat rice, whole wheat english muffins, reduced fat mayo, brocoli and cheese steam bag, steam veggies bag, gatorade, reduced fat malt vingear chips etc.
I tried to think of items we could eat throughout the week and possibly bring to school.
I'm planning on painting tomorrow and working more on the roller derby swap items after school.
I've gotten a lot of compliments on my hair.

P.s.
Tuesday is the draft party, i've been drafted this time around!! Woo!!

Artists to look out for!

Michael Mararian (Ink)
Ione Rucquoi (mixed media photography)
Fran Williams (Painter)
Rose Sanderson (Illustrator)
Liz McGrath (Sculptures/Dioramas)
Kate MacDowell (Porcelain artist)

Clothes and Reflections

I want to buy these items once i've lost 3-4 inches off of my waist and hips.
$25.00
$36.00

I started the Roller Derby workout this past Friday, and I ate one of the meal plans as well.
I'm really focusing on finding a way to eat healthier even when I go out to eat (because as a college student I spend no time at home. Most of my time is spent at work). I had oatmeal this morning and i'm contemplating going to Subway and getting something, we have no food here.
I'm going to weigh and measure myself every other Thursday to keep track of it all.
Now i'm not an unrealistic exerciser, I don't expect to loose anything suddenly or cry if i've gained a pound. Weigh fluctuates and therefore it is normal.
I am however going to the grocery store tomorrow with Alec, to see if we can stock up on some healthier foods.

Deathawk Madness

I got my hair cut this morning and I was so ecstatic!!!

I'm dying it tonight!

Goals

So, I emailed someone from SAIC and got the details about deferred enrollment and it looks like it is a go for Alec and I to apply as transfer students.
Our deadline is August 15th.
Alec and I also talked about how we've decided to do what we can to feel better about ourselves physically, so we're setting goals and what not.
I'm going to measure myself today and find out the size of my waist and what not, because my biggest concern is the muffin top and i'd like to loose 40 pounds.
As of yesterday I am 161.5, I gained a lot with my depo shot, but i'm going to loose it!
We are starting meal plans and exercise regime's.
I'm starting the The Roller Derby Workout Challenge starting on Monday,
I really want to loose 5 inches or more off my waist, and about 20 pounds by summer.
40 total by the end of Summer.
I want to be able to jam and feel great bouting.
I have a tendency to feel self conscious and gross when bouting due to my weight.
So i'm changing that.
I'm also going to invest in some awesome make up and try to do some killer variations, not super extreme, but to spice it up!
I'm looking at Urban Decay and Walmart for purchases, and google for cool make up ideas.

Well Damn

I work everyday this weekend, which is highly unnatural considering that I am not available on Saturdays. But, i'm doing it as a favor so Alec isn't screwed in framing all night.
Oi.
I'm currently in the process of buying a couple of items and some items i'm just thinking about.
Buying:

Looking @:
$23.00
I love the gray pair. I'm going to measure myself at home and decide whether to get them.
(My deathrock-ness is coming out, I used to own a pair of bright green zebra pants in high school)
$40.00
$50.00(I don't have any "dress" shoes)
$26.00
$26.00
I've got to work all weekend so I had to make my deathawk appointment for 9am, so i'll miss practice.
*sigh*
But! I'll have awesome deathrock hair!!
*super excited*

Spinneret

Her long legs spin,
feather like and thin.
Black and glossy she gleams in the moonlight.
White streams of fluid lines
descend from her small spinneret.

Wrapping itself around her legs in ropes,
she twists and molds these white lines.
From within, her web of creativity is born.
SMACK
A deep buzzing sound vibrates throughout,
Jarring her from that crevasse of darkness.
She scuttles along her ruby red hourglass glinting in the light.
She bites deeply releasing her poison.

Not sure about that last line, I might leave it at the ruby red hourglass.
This is my workshop poem for creative writing next week.

One week

A week from today I am officially drafted to one of our three teams.
Hopefully i'm a polka-bot.
I started on a new painting yesterday, I should've worked on it much longer and gotten more done.
I also started cutting out fabric for my first present to my Roller Derby Swap partner, but I had some difficulties and had to put it away.
Today i'll be going to practice, like usual, only I can't scrimmage.
=[.
My side was acting up when I rolled out of bed this morning, so I took one of my muscle relaxers.

Alec and I decided yesterday that when we go on our Chicago trip here soon, we are going to show our portfolios to the SAIC administration.
Last October we went and we did another tour through SAIC, we were able to see some student work.
I'm going to find out more about deferred enrollment, because i'm thinking that if we apply for the fall 2011 and defer our enrollment to the fall 2012, then we are technically a shoe in.
Since we are going to ICC in fall 2011-spring 2012 and want to transfer in fall 2012.
Deferring the enrollment means we give up our aid for that year, and apply for aid again when we are enrolled for classes. However, our spot is still saved in the system.
But, the enrollment deadlines are June 1st for freshman and August 15th for transfer.
So we'll both need to get started on an enrollment essay:
"Use your written statement as a way to better represent yourself and your work.

Writing is a very important component of being an artist. We will be looking closely at your ability to compose an essay, as well as the manner in which you utilize text as a tool. We are interested in finding out more about you, why you do what you do, and why you are a strong candidate for SAIC's undergraduate program. Please also include information about community service projects, exhibitions you have participated in, or any other activities that contribute to the making of your work."-SAIC administraiton

I'm going to look at the Art History classrooms this time around, i'm still unsure what my second major is going to be. Which isn't a big deal since SAIC requires you to take art classes in many forms of art, and it all is considered a BFA.

We need:
*A HS transcript
* A College Transcript
*A portfolio 10-15works (within past two years)
*65$ for the application to be submitted.
*To fill out the Application
*Write the essay
*Submit FAFSA
*One letter of recommendation

Oh, and i've been asked to be interviewed for a newspaper in peoria regarding roller derby.
Pretty cool eh?

Clothes to try & Make/Find

I want to make a plain black version of this with bat-like sleeves.
A zebra print racer back cardigan with gathered sides.
I have no experience with gathering, but I think I can avoid this by top stitching black around the sleeve holes.
Maybe.

I really want Skull scarf

Except in white. I'd love to get an Alexander McQueen original buuut that is a lot of money for one scarf.

Clothes

$22.50
$24.50
$16.50
$29.50
$31.97

7.99 (i'm adding olive to my list of favorite colors.)

Halloween Idea

I know, I know it is a little soon.
BUUUT, I think i'm going to make a poofy polka dotted dress with white ribcage print like the backup dancers in the Horrorpops videos.

Then i'll put up my deathhawk and give myself some psychobilly makeup and a big fake gash along my throat.
I'll be a dead psychobilly girl.
Complete with fake blood and torn fishnets with kitten heels.
This is my excuse to make/own a dress with ribcage print.
I think it is a rather convincing argument!
haha

Enjoy!

Saturday Morning Practice!

I went to the doctor this morning and he prescribed me a muscle relaxer.
He said that I hyperextended one of the muscles that connects to my ribs when I coughed too hard.
The pop sound I heard was my muscle.
I am not aloud to do any hitting/scrimmaging or any falling for a week, which sucks but at least I got the "ok" to skate still.
I went to practice today 9-11am and helped out Champ with some new hitters, going over basics of engaging and what not.
It was fun.

I then went to get more contacts (for both left and right), my other boxes were out.
I slept for a bit and took a vitamin E pill.
The muscle relaxer made me feel fuzzy, I don't like it.

Then I went with Alec and his family to a Goodwill, and bought 43$ worth of still life material for skill building in painting.
I got a few creepy baby dolls, a stuffed clown, some reflective items, a cool tin can etc.
I also found these nifty witch-like shoes and some shorts to wear to practice.
I also bought Survivor by Chuck Palahnuik for .49 cents.
Yesterday I managed to buy my materials for my roller derby swap partner.
I found some great fabrics, i'm going to have to go back though for a yard of this green fabric I bought.
I only bought enough for one leg.

I bought Alec his Herakut book for Valentines Day and i'm buying him a pair of shoes.
I also bought myself Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro for my Kindle, it was on sale for 5$.
AAand I bough Alec and I tickets to see Ciruqe Du Soeil tickets for our Four year celebration, our anniversary is april 13th, but we are celebrating april 22nd.
Our tickets are:
April 22nd @7:30
Upper Bowl 17C
R0w 11
Seats 5-6
The tickets should come in the mail soon.

Open Skate

School was rough.
I got 3hrs of sleep last night and had to get up at 5:30am, to catch the bus to go to work on campus by 8am.
My ribs were killing me, I think the cartilage might be screwed up somehow, i'm thinking of getting an X-ray just to make sure it isn't something to be worried about.
I got in and had five consultations in the morning from 8-10:30am.
Went to Asian History and then Comm 110 (i'm doing my informative speech on Roller Derby).
Went back to work from 3-4:30 and had two consultations, seven in all with one half hour of sit down time.

Alexis, Jordan, and me went to the open skate at the Palace tonight.
From 6:30-8:30, we left at 7:45pm. Alexis had to meet up with her husband to go to a friends house.
It was entertaining I got to work on some of my lateral movement around the other people skating, I scared some people when I swooped close to them.
Pixie was there and we messed around hip hitting one another lightly.
We had a few girls from Illinois Valley Vixens and one from Rockford Rage who showed up.
It was awesome to meet them!
Jordan and Alexis learned rather quickly how difficult skating for longer than a half hour is, I laughed and told them to imagine three hours worth of endurance including a scrimmage.

I had to make my hair appointment from 12:30 on the 26th, because the 25th is too busy.
Tomorrow I am going to Jo-Ann Fabrics to get fabric for my derby swap.
I'm excited for practice on Saturday 9-11am!

I found a really great article on motivation to start and stick with derby I love reading them, especially since almost a year ago I had ONLY skated once in my life at the age of six. So I clung to the wall and now i'm comfortable throwing my weight into other people while remaining upright and supporting myself on one leg. And hopefully i'll be drafted March first, a year after I started and it took me a little over 3 months to make hitting group.
So i'm all for just doing it and sticking with it.

Reflections

Yesterday I went to practice and went ahead and scrimmaged.
I've been having some issues with my tattoo, the artist told me to just wash it twice with soap and water and leave it be.
Well, the problem is that it is winter and it got dried out.
So it was scabbing and cracking, and I was getting upset.
I put Aquaphor on it and put huge band aids over it to keep it from getting scratched from my wrist guards.
It worked, i'm still going to need a touch-up, but it feels and looks SO much better.
So, i've been putting Aquaphor on it a couple of times a day now.

Practice was really great.
I only ate two bowls of oatmeal and a bowl of chips by 3pm, you don't eat after 3 or you'll get sick from the endurance of 6-9.
And I felt energized and great throughout practice.
Usually somewhere around the second hour of endurance if 20 minute sprints with skills(1 minute sprint, 1 minute two knee falls, repeat for 20 minutes changing up the basic skills each time), and push/pulls are involved I feel sick.
But oatmeal was a really good idea before practice apparently because I felt awesome, the whole time.
I got some great hits in, knocked some bitches down (as expected), and had an awesome wipe out.
I was jamming and Pixie Whiplash #38 came up and hit me as I hit her, and we knocked helmets and fell on our asses.
Luckily I was wearing my padded shorts and felt fine, except I jolted my middle finger when my hand hit the floor.
Overall Success as always.
Our Saturday Practices start this weekend, 9-11am.
Exciting!!
