Late birthday

So, my birthday was the 16th, i'm 19 now.

I went to my art studio and finished a piece.

Went to school for a take home test.
I'm going to bleach and dye my hair Nuclear red here within the next month, then i'm dying it wildflower purple for the fall.
I'm going to a critique on Sunday at 7:30.
I got my SLR camera working so there will be more photos up in each post, hopefully.
The ren. faire is this coming weekend.
I need to do more writing to make my writing portfolio for art school.
The national portfolio day is October 24th, which is exciting.
I need to get house paint for my studio, business cards and contact lenses.
I'm buying a league jacket here in the next few days.
I'm also getting my name customized on my helmet, I got my number on the back of my practice jersey.

*phew*
So much to do!
Also, our first bout is going to be against the St. luna chix July 17th.
SO EXCITING!
I'm not playing since it is the travel team, which are people who are already in hitting group and probably scrimmage as well.
I'm excited to watch!

Derby and Lucy

Well, yesterday I went to my psychology class in the morning and it has been raining all the time lately.

I did my ten laps and am at 2:05, Pro said if I can keep control on the corners(by coasting for a short while) that she'll let me in to hitting group even if i'm not at the 2:00 mark exactly.

Which makes me feel like she has some faith in me, at least.

I got six books from the library that I put on hold and then I got three more today.

Windy City Rollers Ivy Cup Bout!

We got there at like 5 so we had an hour before the bout started.

We couldn't get suicide seats because they were reserved.

We DID however, get in for FREE because we helped them tear down afterward.

They skate on a really big sport court.

It was The Fury Vs. Double Crossers, The Fury won 130-63.

It was crazy.

They had a benefit bout in the beginning for Tequila Mockingbird, she was paralyzed back in 07 or 08 playing during a bout. She was falling back and someone's skate hit her in the neck.

The benefit bout was the Zombies Vs. Dreams and Rainbows, the Zombies won 77-70.

I got a button, because I couldn't afford anything else.

haha.

We might be having a 'scrimmage' August 22nd, against the Arch Rival Roller Girls. Before we may start inter-league bouting in the fall of this year.

I really want to be picked, she's only taking 17 girls and we have 47. We are stopping at 50.

Tomorrow we decided on captains and then drafting starts.

I'm excited to see the results, I won't be drafted till July, but that's alright.

Oh, and by the way, my derby name is

Internship day 5

They are changing what I am doing here as an intern, but it might be for the best.
I'm focusing JUST on Audubon and making two comprehensive guides for visitors.
I'm also helping out with gallery tours and doing more with the public.
However, this means I will be abiding by the dress code more.
So, I need to find out what it is.
I think I might try to intern here next spring through the summer.
I also helped Laura out with these porcelain late 18th century candle holders.
Parts had been re-painted and re-glazed, like their fingers and her skirt and such.
So under the black light they were dramatically purple.
I guess what i'll be doing is much more art focused than before, so i'm okay with that.

I'm going to the open skate tonight.

Studio space and Roller Derby

So, Monday I officially got studio space and today Alec and I went to town getting old (100+ year old) wallpaper off the walls. I LOVE my new space. I have so many ideas on how to fix it up!

It is a 70$ space too, which isn't bad for an art studio.

I'm on the third level of Speakeasy and I have pictures to put up showing what we did today.

I went to practice today, which is uncommon, BUT they scheduled something on our usual Thursday time. So they gave us today 6-9, our first three hour practice!

I got timed:

5 laps: 1:05

10 laps: 2:11

I went down, but i'm not doing crossovers which is costing me time.

I'm not super worried that I didn't get my right time to get on hitting group.

I have a few things to pay for still, before I can get on hitting group.

Like my goggles and my number on my jersey.

We did submit our names so I can make a big post about it here soon.

I won't make our first team drafts because i'm not on hitting group yet, but i'm not too worried, i'll make it during our next draft.

Which should be in July.

Today was a pretty good day.

I found this bag of old photos at an Antique shoppe Alec took me too, I think i'll get them.

I want to use them for my new art series i've been working on for my Illinois Central College show in the fall.
