Soy City Mixer scrimmage

I buried curri after work today.

We had to use a LOT of hot water to make the ground softer.

But she is buried near Lucy.

I'm going to plant flowers around them once the ground is co-operative.

Right afterward I had to get ready for practice.

We were split into three integrated teams(both push & soy city players), and for one half hour two teams faced one another based on who drew A & B from a pool of three.

C (the team I was on) played the winner from the first half.

So, we only scrimmaged for a half hour, but it was fun!

It was great to meet a different local (Decatur, IL) league, and to get the chance to play both with and against them.

All around a good time!

The draft test is set for Feb 8th, hopefully i'll be drafted this time!

I'll admit it, I want to be a Bot.

Having been an unofficial bot for two public bouts and a ton of scrimmages, it is natural.

Now March 13th, there is an Indiana team hosting a skills practice and we have been invited to come along. I'm excited to get the chance to meet more derby girls.

If I get to go to L.A. over summer, i'm going to see about contacting the L.A.D.D to attend a practice(if they allow it!).

I am also hoping to maybe be part of our B travel team.

Maybe, hopefully, I kinda want to.

Bout day

Today is bout day.

The Polka Bots lost in a ridiculously awesome final jam, worthy of something as large as the civic center.

We lost by one point to a team of around seven or more veteran skaters.

I only went out three times.

I would've spoken up about it and offered to go in, except that I had cough drops at the bench and tons of kleenex.

Still, I should've tried to be out there more than I was.

Many of our girls are sick with the same thing as me.

We ended up raising over 26,000 for the Illinois Cancer Foundation!!

Aaand we sold over 2,700 tickets. Which is amazing!

We sold more than the Rivermen(hockey league)!

It is rather obvious that we are too awesome to be contained and should obviously be playing regularly in the civic center arena.

Being Human

I cut out the pieces for my corset yesterday.

When I finish sewing it i'm going to paint on both sides.

I'm thinking a large anatomical heart on one side.

I've started making shelves in my bedroom for my art supplies and books.

I bought a small spot light to use for still life work the other day.

I start school tomorrow....yeah...

I watched the premiere of Being Human on Sci Fi, Mondays @ 8/9.

It seems like a series i'm going to really like, I was somewhat worried about whether the story and the acting would be well done. The acting isn't bad, and so far the story has a lot of potential. It was originally a BBC show, so i'm eager to see that version too.

I'm excited to see where it heads!

I've also been watching Merlin on Sci Fi.

Hoodie & work

So I finished my hoodie reconstruction project on the 11th, see below.

It has withstanded two days of regular wear from me and i've only got two or three small seams to re-sew.

Yesterday I worked all day it seemed with two jobs.

Today, I had work on campus at 10am, so I had to wake up at 8am to catch the bus.

We had some readings to do for next week and went over some new policies.

Then it was time for fellows, aaaaand I ended up staying.

I had every intention of not doing fellows this semester, but I was supposed to tell Alexis and I only told Stefanie. Soooo, I was already locked in and would've been screwing them over if I still said no. So i'm doing it, it seems like it'll be fairly straight forward though.

So hopefully I won't have too hard of a time this semester juggling all of my projects and what not.

I'm hoping to do some pen and ink drawings tonight and maybe sketch out the pattern for my corset project.

I need to paint tomorrow, i'm thinking of painting those horse line by numbers I got out of a white elephant gift this past christmas.

We went to Jo-Ann's and I got two fabrics, a gray brocade and a black lining for my caplet. I've gotta buy an outer fabric

We stopped by a local camera shoppe, which turned out to be a bust.

A whole lot of really basic stuff for expensive prices, tripods and carrying bags for 49.99+.

Ridiculous, right?

We ate at 50's diner, which was okay, we wanted to get some dessert but the lady never came back.

We went to Naturally Yours which was really cool, I bought some chocolate that gave 10% of its profits to animal and habitat organizations.

They had ostrich meat, buffalo meat etc. with a lot of gluten free items and dried fruit.

I went to ICC to get my books for next semester.

I have a grant so I didn't have to pay out of pocket, which is really great.

I also bought some fixative while I was there.

I want to make some sketches before school starts next Tuesday.

I'm currently watching Obama live on CSPAN.

I've got to work at michaels from 10-2, then at ICC from 3:30-7.

Alec and I went to my grandma's.
We stopped by Dunkin' Donuts and had some of their breakfast along with some coffee.
It was actually a really good deal, we got four sandwiches, two coffees, and two donuts for under 11$.
Practice last night was ROUGH, i'm nervous for my body after tonight's practice.
We've started making Monday's into core bootcamp for the first hour, and skating for the second.
The core bootcamp was really tough, my legs and stomach still ache. I nearly puked because I had hummus within an hour before practice.
Really bad idea to eat within 3 hours of roller derby practice, you will almost always feel sick in some way.

Did I mention that it is snowing? A lot, again.

Alec and I woke up at 5am, he made us eggs and toast.
We watched I Love Lucy till 6:52am, got bundled up and went for an early hike through a nearby patch of woods.
We were out there for about an hour and a half, taking photos.
We went to a park for more photos and then to a new antique shoppe that opened up.
They had some great Victorian type clothing that I would've liked to have bought, but it wouldn't fit.
There was a great cape that must've been for a child in the early 19th century.
I bought a hat and an interesting headband that is totally photo worthy.

But my camera still sucks.
We then ate at Maid-Rite, and took a nap when we got back to his house.
I then stopped by Jo-Ann's to get a seam ripper and an 18" zipper for my hoodie.
I've encountered an issue with size when I was putting in the zipper, the bottom of the hoodie itself was uneven, so one side was much shorter than the other. My 20" zipper wouldn't work once I evened it out because there would be over 4" of thick green at the bottom.
SO, i'm starting the bottom over.
